The Warm Home Discount is a one-off annual payment of £140 (including VAT) to help customers who are struggling to pay their electricity bills.

Am I eligible for the Warm Home Discount?

As a voluntary supplier we can only offer the Warm Home Discount to our customers who are in the Core Group.

The Core Group is made of people in receipt of the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) tells energy suppliers like us who to pay in this group.

You can check the DWP’s eligibility criteria, or call their Warm Home Discount helpline on 0800 731 0214 from 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

Please have your electricity bill or statement with you. You’ll need to read out the bill payerʼs name and account number on the electricity bill or statement.

Customers we were supplying with energy on the 7th July 2019, who form part of the Core Group, are eligible for a Warm Home Discount payment from us.

If you signed up to Bristol Energy after 7th July 2019, and are part of the Core Group, you are eligible for a Warm Homes Discount payment from your previous supplier.

What should I do if I think I’m eligible for Warm Home Discount?

You shouldn’t need to do anything, but if you or your partner were in receipt of Pension Credit Guarantee Credit on 7th July 2019 and believe you qualify, but haven’t received a letter by 31st October 2019, please contact the Warm Home Discount Scheme helpline on 0800 731 0214 , Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm. The helpline is open from 14th October 2019.

The deadline date to claim the Warm Home Discount is the 28th February 2020. Please ensure you contact the helpline before this in order for you to not miss out.

We receive confirmation from DWP that a customer is due payment. We will then credit the customer £140 to their electricity account.

How will I receive the Warm Home Discount?

It will be shown on your electricity bill as a Warm Home Discount of £133.33. With VAT this will mean an overall £140 towards your electricity costs.

If you pay your electricity costs by pre-payment meter, we’ll let you know how you’ll get your discount.

All payments will be made by April 2020, but hopefully before.

Will I stop getting any other help with my winter fuel bills?

The Warm Home Discount will not affect any Winter Fuel Payment or Cold Weather Payments you may get.

Why is Bristol Energy taking part in the Warm Home Discount scheme?

Bristol Energy is taking part in the Warm Home Discount scheme as a voluntary supplier for 2019/20.

Bristol Energy was one of the first suppliers to volunteer to offer the discount to its customers. Currently, only companies with more than 250,000 customers are obliged to join the Warm Home Discount scheme.

For us at Bristol Energy, it was vital that we were able to help our more vulnerable customers now, rather than waiting until we're much bigger.
