Meet Tim, the battery designer keeping carbon neutral with solar power

Tim from PB Designs with Bristol Energy in factory

Our renewable power isn’t always generated amongst rolling hills and flowing rivers – it’s often thanks to businesses right on our doorstep.

Meet Tim, MD of PB Design in the coastal town of Clevedon, near Bristol.

PB Designs make battery chargers and systems that can be used as essential backup in hospitals, the London tube, and leading tourist attractions like the Eden Project.

The business started in a garage, but the factory is now home to 57 members of staff, all of whom have a stake in the business.

Green credentials to be proud of

But as a manufacturing business grows, so does its environmental impact. Tim and the team were aware they needed to increase the amount of electricity coming from renewable sources to reduce their carbon footprint.

So three years ago, they installed 316 solar panels on the roof of the factory.

By generating their own electricity, the company has saved itself a whopping £10,000 on its yearly bill. And when it comes to electricity they’re now carbon neutral.

Helping us green up the grid

We purchase the solar energy they don’t use, though a Power Purchase Agreement, and pass it on to our customers.

The fact that Bristol Energy’s is an energy company that gives back to the community suits us as an employee owned business.
