Trading and Forecasting Analyst

Salary: Up to £28,000 depending on experience

Hours: Full Time, 37.5 Hrs

About the role

The Trading and Commercial team manage the volume and price risk associated with supplying gas and electricity to our domestic and commercial customer base via various routes to market. Key to this responsibility is accurate forecasting of customer demand, generation positions and wholesale market trends to allow accurate, timely and responsible execution of our purchasing strategies in the wholesale markets. This role would suit someone in the early stages of their career in the energy industry. The role offers the opportunity to work within a commercial and analytical team and to gain experience in a range of areas within utility trading and forecasting.

Although not an exhaustive list, your duties will be to: 

  • Provide regular support to the operational trading process, including processing documentation and dealing with external queries

  • Monitor wholesale markets and provide accurate and concise insight to the wider team

  • Execute electricity and gas trades against our hedging and balancing strategies at agreed authority levels

  • Undertake detailed analysis of trading, forecasting, energy market and industry data

  • Monitor trading and forecasting reports and ensure issues are identified and resolved in a timely manner

  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve trading and forecasting performance

  • Perform ad-hoc analysis, contribute to projects, and provide general support to the Trading and Commercial team and the wider business

Knowledge and Experience

You must have:

  • A degree level education or at least 1 years’ relevant experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint

You will ideally have:

  • An understanding of Britain’s energy markets
  • Experience of modelling with Excel, VBA, SQL or similar
