About the role

Testing the Bristol Energy systems is a key driver to ensure an integrated working solution and ensure that all systems are fit for purpose to serve our customers and our business. The cloud-first Bristol Energy IT landscape includes:

  • Junifer - our billing application
  • A website, portal and mobile app allowing customer sign-up and self-serve
  • Sugar CRM
  • The Sage financial system
  • A range of other industry standard applications

You’ll be responsible for working within a small test team and closely with stakeholders at all levels of the business, with appropriate autonomy for:

  • Defining the tests that need to be run, based on requirements specifications
  • Creating the test data for the tests
  • Running the tests
  • Raising bugs or defects and re-testing when resolutions are provided
  • Working with internal and third-party developers to ensure a smooth release process
  • Providing test report summaries

Key accountabilities

Your main accountabilities will include:

  • Develop test plans that meet the company’s stringent quality standards
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the end to end solution, and where the testing challenges are likely to occur
  • Show dedication to completing test plans in a timely manner, while being flexible enough to recognize and prioritise the testing requirements
  • Provide advice, guidance and capability to other team members and those undertaking User Acceptance Testing
  • Be able to work under pressure and to tight timescales
  • Get involved in facilitating user testing and delivering training to operational teams covering the new functionality in any release.
  • Investigate and implement automated testing capability
  • Support the wider work of the Information Services team through being adaptable and willing

About you

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience of testing applications, preferably in a utilities environment
  • Experience of testing web sites and Billing applications
  • Knowledge of the Gas and Electricity utility industry
  • Knowledge of Gas and Electricity data flows
  • Knowledge of regression and functional testing techniques
  • Able to develop specific functional and end-to-end test scenarios

Skills and Aptitudes

  • Able to pick up new technologies quickly and explain them to others
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, Excel etc.)
  • Good communicator, meeting high standards of written and oral communications
  • Able to work to tight deadlines without compromising performance
  • Personable and collaborate in style
