Senior Gas Trading Analyst

Salary: Up to £40,000 dependent on experience

Hours: Full Time 37.5 Hours

Duration: Permanent

About the role

Our Trading and Commercial team manage the volume and price risk associated with supplying gas and electricity to our domestic and commercial customer base via various routes to market.  Key to this responsibility is accurate forecasting of customer demand, generation positions and wholesale market trends to allow accurate, timely and responsible execution of our purchasing strategies in the wholesale markets. 

We are looking for a Senior Gas Trading Analyst to support the team in the execution of the goal outlined above, initially with a focus on gas trading. This is a hands on role which would suit someone who is currently working in this area and wanting to expand their experience and responsibilities within an innovative supply business. The role offers the opportunity to work within a commercial and analytical team and to gain experience in a range of areas within utility trading.  

This position will be exciting and varied so you will need to be able to turn your hand to a number of responsibilities. Although not an exhaustive list, these duties will include: 

  • Assisting with the setup of gas shipper trading and businesswide capability 

  • Management of the wholesale gas trading process, including trade execution, shipper nominations, processing documentation and dealing with external queries 

  • Assisting with the execution of wholesale electricity trades against agreed hedging policies 

  • Supporting the development and optimisation of trading strategy, agreements, systems and process. 

  • Providing summary and detailed analysis, updates and reporting of business data in hedging, trading, markets, and other areas. 

  • Building and developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders and representing trading interests within the industry. 

  • Any other reasonable duties based on the needs of the business 

About you 

You must have: 

  • A minimum of 2 years gas hedging, trading and/or balancing experience in a gas shipper supply business 

  • Knowledge and experience of gas trading and industry management systems 

  • Knowledge of GB energy markets, agreements and the data underpinning accurate hedging and balancing 

  • Experience in commercial and analytical data modelling to support commercial decision making 

  • A degree level education in a numerical discipline 

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
