Renewables Business Officer

Salary: £20,000 - £23,000

About the role

Bristol Energy’s Trading, Commercial and B2B Team is responsible for purchasing our renewable electricity and gas and the sales and management functions for our business supply customers. The team also manage the pricing, forecasting, trading and risk associated with supplying and servicing gas and electricity to our domestic and business customer base as well as assisting the B2B Team in some sales activities and supporting the Renewables and Commercial Officer where required.

As Renewables Business Officer, you will be primarily tasked with growing our PPA portfolio of renewable gas and electricity generators, developing a pipeline of Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) sales opportunities, raising Bristol Energy’s visibility in the PPA market and helping us to develop new generator products and services.

This will include establishing and maintaining positive relationships with renewable generators, managing generator accounts, developing Bristol Energy’s generator marketing material (online and offline), representing Bristol Energy at external meetings and exhibitions and negotiating PPA contracts. You will need to be confident in speaking with prospective generators, working with large sets of data and share our commitment to our ethos and company mission.

Key accountabilities

Your main accountabilities are listed below:

  • Establishing and maintaining a PPA sales pipeline for new and existing generation customers

  • Managing the end-to-end PPA sales and renewal process

  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with new and existing generation and business customers

  • Managing relationships with Third Party Intermediaries (TPIs)

  • Identifying new routes to market, industry trends and new product opportunities

  • Supporting on PPA quotation and estimate requests

  • Negotiating and preparing customer agreements

  • Representing Bristol Energy at external events and meetings (travel and occasional overnight stay will be required)

  • Maintaining and developing Bristol Energy’s database of prospects and customers

  • Preparing monthly generator export statements

  • Liaising with industry third parties

  • Supporting the B2B Team with pricing and sales opportunities

  • Taking ownership of required reporting and monitoring processes

About you

You must have:

  • A degree level education, or have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience

  • Experience of working in a sales or Account Management focused role

  • Excellent communication skills including written, face-to-face and over the phone and have the ability to communicate complex issues in a simple and effective way

  • A passion for sales and an innovative approach to business development

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, with good attention to detail

  • A natural ability to solve problems and the ability to produce accurate work under tight deadlines

  • An ability to pick up new ideas quickly and apply them in your day to day work

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word and Powerpoint

  • Willingness to support the wider Trading, Commercial and B2B Teams on tasks and opportunities as they arise

You will ideally have:

  • Experience of working in the UK electricity market

  • Knowledge of renewable energy technologies

  • Knowledge of UK renewable legislation (e.g. ROC, FIT)

  • Database Management experience
