Meet David, the farmer who dreams of electric sheep
Meet David Eyles, a sheep farmer from Cornwall, and one of our very first renewable generators.
David and his wife have farmed sheep for over 15 years, with help from their four children.
By taking advantage of the Cornish weather, the family farm now runs entirely on power from its wind turbine in the paddock and solar panels on the sheep sheds.
We buy the electricity that’s left over, through a Power Purchase Agreement, and pass it on to our customers. And luckily, it’s rather a lot!
Going green to help the nation
We went to meet David on a blustery day in February, and it’s clear the farm is the perfect environment for generating masses of renewable power: “we’ve just ticked over a million kilowatts!” David exclaimed as we were blown about underneath the wind turbine.
The family passion for farming is clear to see. Lambing season demands early mornings and late nights. But since he started generating his own power, David’s become a bit of a renewable enthusiast too.
Not only are we producing great quality lamb on the farm, we’re also producing something green to help the nation.
Supporting families and businesses
Generating and selling their own power has also helped support the family’s four children through University. A great example of how our partnerships can support families and businesses, as well as renewable energy.
It’s great to hear how positive the Eyles family are about the future of green energy in the UK. And we’re proud to have them as part of our generator community.
I think there’s a fantastic opportunity for people wanting to generate power in this country. I’d say get on and do it. If we’re going to be cutting back on fossil fuels, we’re going to need a lot more renewable energy.
Here, here David!
