Four Bristol friends with no previous rowing experience are set to take on the world’s toughest rowing challenge across the Atlantic Ocean to raise money for Movember.
The team, Nuts over the Atlantic, will face 40 days of storms, hunger and sleep deprivation, as they make the 3000 mile journey from La Gomera to Antigua.
We're proud to be sponsoring the solar panels on the boat, which will be used to power fundamental equipment on board.
The Nuts over the Atlantic team have already raised an impressive £100,000 for Men’s Health charity, Movember. And with no prior rowing experience, have been training for the last two years in preparation.
“We wanted to use the Atlantic challenge as a platform to raise a substantial amount of money for the Movember Foundation and in turn stop men dying too young,” said team member, Mark Gibson.
"We're incredibly humbled that Bristol Energy has decided to partner with us and support us in achieving our goal.”
With the team struggling to fund the boat’s final additions, we were happy to step in and provide the team with solar panels, a crucial element for a journey so long.
“The support Bristol Energy provided has allowed us to use a truly innovative solar panel product that has never crossed the ocean before!" said Mark.
The panels will be used to power fundamental equipment on board including; the water maker, the chart plotter, AIS, satellite phone and navigation lights.
“It’s a privilege for Bristol Energy to help in any way that we can, and what better way than providing the team with a renewable power source?” said Peter Haigh, Managing Director of Bristol Energy.
“There needs to be much more awareness surrounding men’s health and this is an incredibly brave way of achieving that!”
The crew set sail on December 12th where they will row for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in 2 hour on off shifts.
