Junior Developer

Salary: Up to £30,000 dependent on experience

Hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week

About the role

We are looking for a solutions focused developer to join our Insights Team. As part of the IT and Digital Team at Bristol Energy the Insights Team have business responsibility for the development and management of the Data Model both for analysis and business reporting. The team also support the business with the development of process solutions that meet the data needs of internal and external stakeholders, including regulators.

As a developer you will use your skills and knowledge to work in partnership with stakeholders to define and build data solutions and processes. You will work across the organisation with individuals or teams on tactical or larger strategic projects led by our Project Management Office. You will use your technical knowledge and business logic to support the transformation of stakeholder requirements into technical solutions.

The business is in a period of rapid change, to support that the Insights Team is designing and implementing a Data Model, reviewing our technical solutions and maturing our processes. We are a small team and you will take and active role in this change.

Your main accountabilities will include to:

  • Build and maintain data sets, reports and models on our SQL Analytics server

  • Design and develop bespoke data sets and reports using SQL and PowerBi to deliver KPI dashboards for critical business services including our Senior Leadership Team and Board

  • Support the development and maintenance of existing reporting services for our business users across the Finance, Operational, Marketing and Sales teams

  • Ensure that, as part of our Governance model, both our Data Dictionary and Product Catalogues are up to date, and that code is sufficiently clear and annotated

  • Support the team to run some of the process in our bespoke models by either controls testing or updating underlying data sets

  • Work with PMO and Testers and wider business to ensure a clear understanding of the specification and acceptance criteria to enable the successful testing and deployment of solutions

  • Be proactive in promoting solutions for and improvement to the Data Model as well as reports and data sets developed by the Insights Team

  • Provide a high level of customer service across the organisation including technical understanding, coaching and challenge where needed

About you

You must have:

  • Significant experience in and excellent SQL skills including the use of SSIS and SSRS

  • A good understanding of Governance models and the use of Source Control

  • Proven experience of critical thinking and problem-solving when partnering with non-technical stakeholders

  • Good business process understanding to facilitate solution discovery and development

  • The ability to demonstrate an analytical and methodical approach to your work and the ability to challenge entrenched ideas

  • Good stakeholder management skills and be able to engage across the organisation from Advisor to Director level

  • An excellent eye for detail and an in depth understanding of process and data controls

  • Experience of building and maintaining ETL processes across different systems and data types

  • Experience of using data to build PowerBi visualisations for process and business support and KPIs

You will ideally have:

  • Sound experience of working with Python

  • Experience of working within the energy supply industry

  • Experience of business and technical transformation programs

  • Experience of standard dev and project process (Agile/Scrum/Lean)

  • Experience of requirements gathering

  • Good knowledge of energy systems including Junifer and AFMS
