Head of Insight

Salary: Up to £60,000 dependent on experience

About the role

An exciting new opportunity for a Head of Insight to create a new team by bringing together a number of our data analysts from across the business into a central team. You will be joining us to contribute to our success through providing relevant insights and effective planning across the business, third parties and our customers. You will play a key role in the next phase of Bristol Energy’s development.

It will be your responsibility to ensure data insight across the organisation is developed to a standard befitting of an increasingly data driven industry and that regulatory reporting requirements are fulfilled. You will also use this data to ensure that we are working effectively and support the Retail Director and Operational Managers to ensure that key work activities are planned and effectively resourced.

You will be responsible for establishing and leading a new team to achieve key accountabilities, including:

  • Oversee the collaboration and exchange of data among the relevant departments to ensure reporting and operational forecasts are accurate and fit for purpose

  • Establish and develop a team of data analysts and resource planners

  • Manage a suite of data reports designed to feed performance and insight on Bristol Energy’s business strategy

  • Align reporting and analytics procedures across departments

  • Undertake detailed data analysis to enable cross-functional forecasting and provide recommendations based on reporting insight

  • Be a main point of contact to ensure system interfaces are operable and provide input into the monthly Change Board

  • Ensure the submission of regular reports to third parties are submitted on time, accurate and secure in line with third party and industry obligations

  • Produce dashboard reports and regulatory reports as required

  • Supporting in the forming of long and short term strategic objectives and assessing them for feasibility, potential benefit and cohesion with other business objectives and priorities

About you

You must have:

  • At least 3 years’ relevant experience in a similar role

  • A degree level qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent gained through experience

  • Experience of leading, motivating and developing colleagues within an IT or Data Management function

  • Experience of business analysis in investigating, scrutinising, analysing, communicating and articulating complex problems and make clear and concise recommendations based on the data available

  • Excellent numerical literacy with a high competence in mathematical problem solving and reasoning

  • Advanced and proficient skills in reporting tools including the development and design of advanced queries and including Excel, VBA, SQL or similar reporting tools

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to ensure insights, data and the complexities of the UK energy industry can be understood by business leaders, managers and all colleagues across the organisation

  • The ability to adapt to the changing nature of the business and industry with an innovative approach to ensure improved solutions supports ongoing business performance

  • A focus on customer experience and customer journey and ensuring that they are a key part of understanding business insights and in making recommendations

  • Experience of dealing with internal and external stakeholders and an ability to build and maintain effective relationships

You will ideally have:

  • Experience gained within the energy or wider utilities industry with an understanding of the end-to-end customer journey, 3rd party agents, the role of managed services, Smart Metering or the technicalities of industry data sharing via the Data Flows

  • Experience of setting up and establishing a team of analysts, subject matter experts or resource planners

  • Experience in implementing resource and workflow planning techniques

  • Experience using Microsoft Power BI, DAX and M query languages
