Bristol Energy launches 100% green products as city hits 10-year countdown to carbon neutral target

Our year-long partnership with The Big Issue has now come to an end, therefore the Big Issue Super Green Tariff is no longer available. During the partnership, we are proud that Bristol Energy customers helped raise over £30,000 for the social enterprise, raising vital funds to support the most vulnerable people in society.

Bristol Energy has announced its new 100% green electricity and lower carbon gas portfolio of tariffs.

Bristol Energy has announced its new 100% green electricity and lower carbon gas portfolio of tariffs, largely powered by local wind and solar farms, as the city enters the 10-year countdown to its 2030 carbon neutral target.

Attending today’s City Gathering in City Hall – where a new version of Bristol’s One City Plan will be unveiled - we launched three new green products; BE Simply Green, BE Super Green and Big Issue Super Green. These are the only tariffs now available to new customers.*

All three products contain only 100% green electricity and lower carbon gas, with a particular focus on sourcing renewable energy from local, South West-based generators.

Our new green products

The BE Super Green and Big Issue Super Green products’ green electricity is sourced directly from UK generators, such as wind power from Wales’ (Ceredigion) Grannell Coop and solar power from Swansea’s Gower Power, with 100% gas carbon offsets.

For every switch, we will put aside £20** towards environmental and social projects, such as the One Tree per Child tree planting scheme in Bristol.

Bristol to be carbon neutral by 2030

Bristol Energy’s new portfolio supports Bristol City Council’s ambition for the city to become carbon neutral by 2030.

Our new products are in response to Bristol being the first major UK city to announce a climate emergency.

Marek Majewicz, Managing Director at Bristol Energy, said: “As we enter a new decade, 2020 is a significant year for Bristol Energy. We’ll soon reach our fifth year of trading, and, in line with the progressing ambitious City Leap project, we’ve now hit the 10-year countdown to Bristol’s carbon neutral target.

“We are pleased to now only offer green products to new customers, encouraging green energy and supporting local renewable generators across wind, solar, hydro and bio. By sourcing electricity directly from renewable generators, we’re committing to supporting local businesses and communities who generate renewable power, by giving them a route to market and a good price for the power they sell.

“Our new products encourage customers to go green and do their bit for the planet. My message to everyone in Bristol is switch to Bristol Energy and support our city to become a cleaner, greener, healthier place to live.”

We continue to tackle social, as well as environmental, challenges locally and nationally. Our Big Issue Super Green product offers customers the opportunity to make a £30 donation (when switching both electricity and gas) to The Big Issue, supporting their work in the community.

As with all of our tariffs, every time someone who recommends a friend to switch to one of our tariffs, their account will receive £20, their friend’s account with receive £20 and we will donate £20 to our Fuel Good Fund, helping tackle fuel poverty.
