We've partnered with The Big Issue to offer people across the UK the chance to save cash and the planet with The Big Issue Green Tariff.
The two-year fixed tariff, which offers 100% green electricity and 15% green gas, will be available nationally.
Greta Thunberg and the Extinction Rebellion protests that brought London to a standstill last month have turbocharged the conversation on climate change. Energy prices have also shot up – Ofgem announced that the default tariff price cap would increase by £117 in January while even poverty battling charity Citizens Advice recognised the price rises as “inevitable”.
People are demanding more from their energy providers and want to know where their electricity and gas is coming from, how clean and renewable it is and how much it is going to cost them.
A partnership of shared values
We believe The Big Issue partnership is a great fit with our social values. As a sustainable energy company with social value at its heart. Owned by Bristol City Council, we were created as a different kind of energy provider: one which has the community at its heart and focuses on driving profits for purpose.
We focus our community work here in Bristol and our Fuel Good Fund, established in 2018, supports vulnerable residents around the city living in fuel poverty. In 2018/19, 1 in 10 people were living in fuel poverty in the city (PDF). We work with local charities to deliver meaningful impact to vulnerable people such as helping them to manage debt and look at home improvements to support energy efficiency. To date, the fund has raised over £30,000 and supports Bristol City Council’s aim that no one suffers a cold home by 2030.

It’s fantastic to be launching our partnership with The Big Issue, we’re two organisations with similar social goals and shared values. It’s one way in which we can support both vulnerable people and take climate action.
